Whether you’re traveling by car, venturing along the West Coast, or combining your stay with a road trip through the countryside, getting here is part of the adventure.

Directions By Car

Goudkop Bush Camp is easily accessible via the R366, with well-maintained gravel roads leading directly to the camp entrance.

Approximate Driving Times:

  • Cape Town – 2 hours 15 minutes (179 km)

  • Piketberg – 45 minutes (50 km)

  • Elands Bay – 40 minutes (46 km)

  • Lambert’s Bay – 1 hour 15 minutes (82 km)

Route from Cape Town:
Take the N7 north from Cape Town towards Piketberg. Just past Piketberg, take the R366 turn-off toward Elands Bay. Continue straight for approximately 42 km. Look out for the Goudkop Bush Camp signage on your left , the camp is well-marked and easy to find.

A standard vehicle can comfortably navigate the gravel roads in dry weather. A high-clearance vehicle is helpful but not required.

What to Pack

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay at Goudkop Bush Camp, we recommend packing with the changing weather conditions of the Sandveld region in mind. While the days are often sunny and dry, mornings and evenings can bring a chill, especially in winter.

  • Sunglasses & Sun Hat

  • Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots

  • Camera or smartphone for wildlife and landscape photography

  • Binoculars for birdwatching

  • Torch or headlamp (especially if camping)

  • Bathing suit (for our swimming pool)

  • Insect repellent

Summer (November to February):
Expect hot, dry days with the occasional Sandveld breeze. Daytime temperatures can range from 20°C to 35°C. Pack light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, and a hat for protection from the sun. A light jacket may be handy for cooler evenings.

Autumn (March to April):
Weather begins to cool, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 28°C. Pack a mix of short- and long-sleeved clothing, as well as a lightweight jacket or jersey for early mornings and nights.

Winter (May to August):
Winters at Goudkop are dry and crisp, with daytime temperatures between 10°C and 22°C, and nights that can drop close to freezing. Pack warm layers, including a jacket, scarf, gloves, and thick socks, especially if you’re camping or enjoying outdoor fires in the evenings.

Spring (September to October):
Mild and sometimes unpredictable, spring brings warm days and occasional breezes. Temperatures range from 15°C to 30°C. Bring layers so you can adjust throughout the day, and don’t forget your camera for the spring wildflowers in bloom!
